Custom Cake Spotlight: Elegant Wedding Cake with Gold Accents

Victoria and Dan’s lovely wedding could be best described as a timeless and classic affair. The couple tied the knot at the Skokie Country Club, with the help of Lori Stephenson (Owner of LOLA Event Productions) as their wedding planner. We designed Victoria and Dan’s elegant wedding cake in a way that fit perfectly into the decor: it had a relatively simple design and was adorned with lovely gold accents. Take a peek at the photos from their big day below by Husar Photography.

Their beautiful, elegant wedding cake consisted of four tiers, which alternated between horizontal textured buttercream and piped buttercream with single swiss dots. The second tier, sprayed in gold, was the most eye-catching component; it also complemented the gold “love” cake topper. Finally, each tier was lined with a small and dainty piped bead border.

LOLA Event Productions provided the beautiful fresh flowers that adorned the cake.

Each delicious piece of cake held a variety of different flavors that complimented each other: pumpkin and chocolate cake with cream cheese, salted caramel buttercream, and vanilla bean buttercream filling – how great does that sound?

Custom Cake Spotlight: Whimsical, Baby Blue Wedding Cake

Tess and Kevin’s whimsical wedding at Cafe Brauer was just gorgeous. They chose a forest-inspired theme, and their colors were baby blue, red, and gold. The bride’s “something blue” was none other than her wedding cake, topped with the most adorable cake topper one ever did see. Thanks to Geneoh Photography for such fantastic photos, and to Erin Braun for planning and orchestrating their beautiful wedding day. Take a peek at their big day (and lovely wedding cake) below.

The couple’s five tier, dusty blue fondant wedding cake was covered with small white flowers cascading from the top to the bottom.  Sitting on top of the cake were two deer figures sitting on a bed of moss, surrounded by whimsical twigs. This adorable topper was made by the crafty bride herself! It was simply adorable.

Their yummy wedding cake was entirely one flavor – red velvet cake with cream cheese filling.

The talented team at Revel Decor transformed Cafe Brauer into a gorgeous woodland setting. Other vendors involved in their big day were The Chicago Players (who played during their romantic ceremony), Sonia Roselli (who did a lovely job with hair and makeup) and Limelight Catering. If you would like to see more photos of their big day, have a look at their feature on Ruffled!

Custom Cake Spotlight: Art Deco Style Wedding Cake

Last summer, Brooke and Brian celebrated their marriage at The Ivy Room in Chicago. The couple’s beautiful wedding cake had adorable art deco-style details as well as lovely fresh floral. Their cake really shone brightly through the decor at their gorgeous reception. We are looking forward to seeing more of their wedding photos to be published on Style Me Pretty in upcoming weeks! Special thanks to Britta Marie Photography for providing us with these lovely photos because amazing photos are just as important as the cake! Fortunately, there are so many talented photographers out there, like Olga Topchii at olgatopchii.com, so if you are planning your special day, consider clicking on the link.

Brooke and Brian’s three tier, blush colored wedding cake had beautiful details to love. Along the bottom of the first and third tiers, they had an art deco scallop stencil design in metallic gold. Centered on the middle tier, there were lovely hand-cut, shimmering gold and white art deco fan shapes. Finally, some subtle fresh floral and greenery by HMR Designs added a delicate touch to the wedding cake. View More: http://brittamariephotography.pass.us/brooke-and-brian

Their cake had two different flavor varieties: the first choice was almond cake with dark chocolate ganache and raspberry buttercream filling, and the second choice was chocolate and almond alternating cake with Nutella and raspberry buttercream filling. Yum!!

Elysia Root Cakes’ 2016 Team Resolutions

The Elysia Root Cakes team had a fantastic year in 2015, and we’re striving for an even better 2016. We thought it might be fun to come up with a list of goals to achieve as a team this year- and no, our resolutions don’t involve going to the gym (though we’re not saying that would be a bad idea, to offset our sugar intake!) Have a look at our list of new year’s resolutions for 2016:

1. Send our cakes to more and/or different venues. This year, we already have plans to send our cakes to the Field Museum and the Chicago Cultural Center – two places (we as a team) have never been to before. We love sending our cakes to new venues, and we hope to hit all Chicago landmark buildings very soon!

2. Expand our menu with new and improved cake and filling flavors. Our team is hard at work researching and testing new cake flavors and fillings. Some new fillings you can expect to see on our 2016 menu will be chocolate fudge frosting, lavender honey buttercream, and Mexican hot chocolate buttercream. We’re also working on new cake flavors like peanut butter, green tea, and pistachio cake. Yum!!

3. Host more baking and decorating classes in our cake studio. We’ve got our first class of 2016 coming up- it’s a fondant basics class for adults on January 30th. Participants will learn how to handle and apply fondant, as well as learn various decorating techniques. (If you’re interested, make sure to call us today!). Not only will we be hosting more adult baking classes, but classes for kids as well!

4. Expand our team. A bigger and better year means having more hands on deck!

5. Improve technique to yield the very best results. We’re sending our team members to a few different classes in the next couple months, so that they can work on their (already amazing) technique. They’ll learn some new and improved techniques on creating sugar floral, among other things. This means there will be more to choose from on the design front!

If you’re planning a wedding in 2016, we still have some dates available so make sure to call (312-344-1046) or email us today to set up an initial consultation! We look forward to hearing from you.

Custom Cake Spotlight: Gorgeous Three Tier Wedding Cake with Silver Leaf

This past spring, Emily and Patrick tied the knot in the heart of downtown Chicago at the gorgeous Holy Name Cathedral. Afterward, the couple held their jovial reception at Davanti Enoteca. Our team had the honor of creating their lovely three tier wedding cake, featuring an eye-catching silver metallic middle tier and a lovely camellia rose stencil design on the bottom tier. Kate from Chicago Vintage Weddings was their talented planner, while Tuan B & Co was their amazingly artistic photographer. Take a look at these gorgeous shots of Emily, Patrick, and their wedding cake below!

Emily and Patrick’s wedding cake design was fairly simple yet gorgeous. All three tiers were completely different from one another, but once combined they created one gorgeous cake! The top tier was clean white fondant, the second tier was fully covered in edible metallic silver leaf (yes, it’s real silver!), and the bottom was an extra tall tier which had a pearlized camellia rose stencil emulating the bride’s shoes.

The cake was also embellished with gorgeous fresh floral (consisting of pink and peach tones) provided by Fab Flora.

Emily and Patrick’s chocolate wedding cake contained two different kinds of delicious fillings: amaretto espresso buttercream and salted caramel buttercream.

Other vendors that took part in their special day were The Empty Pockets, Flawless Beauty, and AY Chicago Luxury Limousine.

If you’ve got a unique design in mind for your wedding cake, we’d love to hear about it! Send us an email or give us a call to set up your initial wedding cake consultation today!

Custom Cake Spotlight: Pink Ombre Buttercream Wedding Cake

Last summer, Andy and Laurin became husband and wife during a gorgeous wedding at the Chicago Botanic Garden. They got lucky with an absolutely perfect summer day to celebrate their love. The team at Elysia Root Cakes loved making their unique, pink ombre buttercream wedding cake! Lauren of LK Events did a lovely job planning their big day, and averyhouse captured it perfectly. Take a look at the photos of Laurin, Andy and their cake below.

Their beautiful wedding cake was pink ombre (darkest pink on the bottom tier and lightest pink on the top) buttercream with a horizontal texture. Laurin, a designer by trade, was very particular about the shade of pink she wanted their wedding cake to be. Luckily, the Elysia Root Cakes team was able to achieve the desired color after seeing a few sample color swatches.
