Our team at Elysia Root Cakes gladly welcomes unique cake requests that will truly represent the essence of couples and individuals. That’s why we had such a great time contributing to Marissa and Hunter’s wedding this past January, working alongside wedding designer extraordinaire Derrick Taylor of Taylor & Co. Derrick’s vision was to have a stunning winter wonderland wedding, while also incorporating a light literary theme. We made two special cakes for this lovely occasion: a unique groom’s cake and a seven-tiered cherry blossom wedding cake. Photos below were taken by RED Weddings.
The groom was Hunter Sharpless, author of Song of the Fool: On the Road with Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers. It seemed only fitting to include some literary elements in the event. Not only was the wedding held at the Newberry Library, but we also made a custom groom’s cake that resembled a stack of well-known literary works, featuring the cover of Song of the Fool on top. This scholarly groom’s cake was red velvet with cream cheese filling.
If you think the groom’s cake was impressive, just take a look at the massive wedding cake!
This tremendous seven-tiered cherry blossom wedding cake had different flavors alternating between the tiers: almond cake with cream cheese filling, as well as chocolate cake with salted caramel and dark chocolate ganache. The icy white cake with muted pink cherry blossoms and roses went along perfectly with the winter wonderland theme.
We hope guests enjoyed eating both cakes as much as we enjoyed making them.
